Shanaaz Majiet

Shanaaz Majiet

Shanaaz Majiet was appointed deputy director-general in December 2011. She holds a BA degree in Social Science, a post-graduate diploma in Management; and a MPhil in Disability Studies, all from the University of Cape Town. Other professional qualifications include a diploma in Development management from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) post-graduate, a senior executive programme from Harvard/Wits universities, an advanced executive training certificate from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, and a coaching diploma from the International Coaching Centre at Middlesex University.

Shanaaz Majiet has served on the City of Cape Town’s Affirmative Action Board and as an institutional change agent in the public service. She has held senior posts at Land Affairs, Water Affairs and Forestry and served as the Superintendent-General for Local Government and Housing in the Western Cape provincial government between 2004 and 2009. From 2009 to 2011, Majiet was the chairperson of the Capacity and Compliance Assessment Panel. She and has also served as a board member of the Social Housing Regulatory Authority. Prior to joining government, she worked as the national advocacy manager for Disabled People South Africa.
