Jeanette Hunter
Jeanette Hunter was appointed as deputy-director general in the Department of Health in March 2013. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Nursing Science from the University of South Africa, a diploma in Community Health Nursing Science from the University of Orange Free State, a postgraduate diploma in Health Services Management from the University of Cape Town and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Free State. She started her career in 1983 as a clinical nurse tutor and a primary health care nurse at Kimberley Hospital. Her career changed direction when she was appointed to head up education support services in the Northern Cape Department of Education in 1997. She went on to lead policy and planning in the Northern Cape Department of Health in 1998 and became head of knowledge and information management in the North West and Gauteng departments of Health in 2003. Jeanette has worked in senior management positions in the Public Sector for 12 years.
Before being appointed at the Department of Health, Jeanette Hunter was the chief executive officer of the Health Systems Trust, where she gained three years of executive management skills and experience.
