Lulama Mbobo

Lulama Mbobo was appointed deputy director-general: Corporate Management Services in 2010. She holds a Master’s degree in Psychology together with a higher diploma in Education. She has attended the senior executive programme of the University of the Witswatersrand and Harvard business schools and the training programme on Epidemiology at the Centre for Disease Control in Atlanta in the United States.

Lulama Mbobo started working as a researcher at the Medical Research Council where she focused on urbanisation and health and co-authored academic articles. She joined the public service in 1994 and worked with a team at the Department of Health to develop a new national health information system for South Africa. Ms Mbobo was appointed deputy director: Policy and Planning at the Department of Education before becoming director for Education Management Information Systems, which covers the entire education system from school to higher education level. In 2003 she was appointed chief director: Infrastructure Planning, Information Systems and Monitoring and Evaluation. Three years later she joined the Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal as a deputy director general for human resource management and administrative services.
