Simon Jiyane

Advocate Simon Jiyane, a former state advocate and senior public prosecutor, has served the Department in the position of Deputy Director-General since April 1997. His first appointment was as head of Regional Co-ordination and Management; from September 2000, as the Head of Legal Services and currently as the Head of Court Services. He is responsible for providing logistical and administrative support to both the Lower and High Courts and for management and coordination of the regional offices of the Department. In 2010, he was seconded to the Office of the Chief Justice to assist with the establishment of the Court Administration Agency.

Adv Jiyane holds a B Juris from the University of Zululand, KwaZulu-Natal; an LLB from the University of Natal, Durban and an LLM degree in Human Rights Litigation from the University of Johannesburg. He also holds a diploma in Policy and Development Administration from the University of the Witswatersrand.He is currently working on an LLD thesis on the Compatibility of Indigenous Law with the Bill of Rights through the University of Pretoria. In 2006, Adv. Jiyane served as Vice President of the UN Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime.
