Catherine Karanja

Catherine Karanja is Managing Partner at Ogilvy PR, Nairobi having joined the agency at inception fifteen years ago. Her current role as Managing Partner entails leading and coaching the client service teams that provide clients with the requisite PR counsel and advice, regularly engaging with clients to oversee service delivery and maintaining and converting stakeholder relationships to deliver critical communication solutions for clients.

Her expertise is informed by her years of experience working with clients to develop resilient and consistent communication strategy in a rapidly changing regional news media landscape. She advocates internal communication checks, consistent messaging and regular interaction with stakeholders and media as the basic tenets critical in successful reputation management.

Catherine Karanja manages the Ogilvy PR team that works on the communication strategy for various clients including Safaricom and Kenya Airports Authority. She led the agency team that developed recovery communication for Kenya’s international airport JKIA and the campaign #JKIAisBack was nominated for an EAMEA 2014 SABREA Award.

Aside from her Ogilvy PR assignments, Catherine was a volunteer in Peter Kenneth’s presidential campaign where she was Communications Director for the Tunawesmake campaign (2009 – 2013).

To unwind Catherine runs (and runs), writes features for the newspaper Daily Nation under a pseudonym, is an avid reader and supporter of local theatre, Kenyan athletes and African music artistes.
