Osvaldo Jesus Calunga Beia
Osvaldo Beia has over five years’ experience in various fields in the community development sector, and translation/interpreting in particular. Currently Osvaldo Jesus Calunga Beia is an English teacher for SOS International Children’s Villages, a sponsor, and a child advocate volunteer at the same organization. He has volunteered at several organizations dealing with human rights and community development. In his local school, he works to discourage early sexual activity in young girls and boys, thus lowering the risk of sexually transmitted diseases like Aids and preventing teen pregnancy. Osvaldo holds a BSc in Psychology from Isupe University, Angola, and has received training in human rights issues, and the fight against HIV/Aids and malaria in the SADC region. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, he plans to continue his work in educating young girls, extend his sponsorship program with SOS International Children’s Villages, and help children get access to primary education.
