Hiwot Amare Getaneh
Hiwot Amare Getaneh has followed a rather atypical career path as she is an informational technology professional with over eight years of experience, who started a nutrition-focused nonprofit in 2016. Currently, Hiwot is the executive director of Nutrition 4 Education and Development, an Ethiopian nonprofit that she co-founded using her fifteen years of experience in volunteering and managing charity associations. The organization’s mission is to improve infant nutrition in the first 1,000 days of life to ensure their full cognitive and physical development. Hiwot holds a master’s degree in Information Systems Management from the University of Lyon 1 in France and has received training in public health and poverty mitigation from various institutions. As a mother of two, Hiwot Amare Getaneh understands the crucial role that mother plays in a child’s life. Using her social and managerial skills, she is working with one community at a time to empower mothers and achieve her goal of giving every child the opportunity to contribute to their community. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Hiwot plans to scale-up the impact of her organization by reaching more mothers and progressively transforming it into a social enterprise, ensuring its sustainability.
