Josephine Akuba Buah

Josephine Akuba Buah has six years’ experience in food product development, food processing, value addition to underutilized crops, postharvest management, and food service. She is the co-founder and general manager of Hosserv Company Limited, a food processing and service start-up. She is passionate about promoting food security, ensuring the health and well-being of people. She holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Food Science and Technology. Josephine Akuba Buah is now pursuing a Ph.D. in the same field. Her Ph.D. work focuses on the potential application of Pentadesma butyracea (butter tree) butter in the food industry. Akuba volunteers for projects that reflect her passion such as, training cooks in food hygiene and sanitation and training women’s groups in regenerative health, nutrition, and beverage and pastry making to improve their household income. She is also actively involved with children’s education as a Sunday school teacher. She enjoys cooking and singing hymns. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, she plans to apply her skills to expand her sustainable food processing and service company in Ghana, creating shared value for all its stakeholders.
