Rita Nkatha Laibuta

Rita Nkatha Laibuta has six years’ experience in the energy industry, and is passionate about providing sustainable, affordable, reliable, and clean energy in Kenya. She is currently working at the Technical University of Kenya, in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, where she is involved in extensive research, designing, and developing energy recovery projects to create self-sufficiency, mitigate climate change, and provide access to electricity for rural communities. Rita Nkatha Laibuta also works with NGOs to provide subsidized biogas digesters for cooking fuel, an alternative to firewood and charcoal, to bottom-of-the-pyramid farmers. Rita holds a master’s degree in Environmental and Energy Engineering from the University of Sheffield, UK. Her research focused on upgrading biogas for large-scale energy production. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Rita plans to continue providing energy solutions, and to impact governance and policy making in the energy sector.
