Jane Nthanda Jere
Jane Jere is a doctor and works for the Ministry of Health at Mulanje District Hospital as a medical officer. Her responsibilities include supervising, controlling, and regulating the 23 health facilities in the district. She runs clinics, reviews ward patients, provides training and supportive supervision to health workers, and also manages administrative functions such as sourcing and controlling human resources, and financial and material resources. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in both Medicine and Surgery from the University of Malawi (July 2012). She is a member of Servas, an international peace promoting non-profit organization, and intends to use the skills she gains from the Mandela Washington fellowship to inspire and empower young women to make good informed decisions, especially regarding their sexual and reproductive health. She also hopes to improve the health system and health policies of Malawi.
