Halima Mahaman Laoual B
Halima Mahaman Laoual B is a civil engineer specialized in emergency humanitarian interventions in the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector. She is currently working at CARE International in Niger as a WASH quality and technical assistant in the Diffa region, where humanitarian assistance is provided to communities affected by the Lake Chad Basin crisis. Halima Mahaman Laoual B is also blogger and mentor, volunteering for several years in the community development sector. She founded the BAIWA initiative, a dynamic and committed youth network using civic engagement as a weapon to help youth improve their self-confidence and address issues in their community. Halima is motivated to address Nigeriens’ social challenges through positive youth ideas and action, which break down taboos and provide opportunities for equality among boys and girls in Niger. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Halima hopes to develop extra-curricular activities in Niger(Africa) to encourage youth civic responsibility and capacity-building in areas such as education, peace, gender, civic engagement, and diversity.
