Mafa Bavuma

Mafa Bavuma, a young, ambitious, hilarious and hardworking radio presenter. Born and bred in the dusty streets of the small rural town of Alicedale. He’s the lastborn in the family of eight children. He did his primary and high school education at Hendrik Kanise Combined School in Alicedale. Matriculated in the year 2000, before he enrolled for a journalism course at the then PE Technikon now Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

Mafa Bavuma is the host of the fast-paced, informative lunchtime Current Affairs show, Zibuzwa Kuthi, from 12-1pm weekdays. It’s a bumper to bumper show, where we bring live newsmakers, SABC Journalists reporting live from all corners of South Africa and from abroad, through social networks we discuss a topical issue of the day, daily, with their listeners. Their stories range from Social issues, political, economical, youth stories, sport etc. They give you weather and traffic report. It’s a one hour show filled with information, top stories, thought provoking and more. The name of the show “Zibuzwa Kuthi” tells you what is the show about. He’s also part of the breakfast show team, BEE, a show that keeps you awake, informed and you will surely laugh your lungs out, and you will fall in love with his infectious laughter…That is were you get see the funny side of Mafa Bavuma.

He travelled all child steps in the radio industry, beginning my career at a community radio, Radio Kingfisher, before he moved to the SABC’s regional youth station, tru fm in 2008, before he joined Umhlobo Wenene fm the same year. He had short stint in the print media, working as a journalist, sport editor and editor in a Xhosa publication, IZIMVO ZABANTU, between 2005 to 2007. So many people have played a role in moulding him to be the presenter that, he is today. It was great pleasure for him to work under legendary radio presenters, like Fezile Mpunzi and Fikile Lubisi, who have not been only his bosses but father figures, applauding him when he’s doing good, constructively critiquing him when he do bad.
