DJ Fisherman

DJ Fisherman

Born Sifiso Mjoli, DJ Fisherman was born KwaNdengezi (township on the west of Durban). Sifiso went to school in the area and when in High School he developed an interest in House Music after hearing so much good music at the time. Julien Jabre’s “Jungle” song was the one that took Fisherman in to the music.

It was the era of Frankie Knuckles, Kenny Dope, Gregory, Robbiera and of course Louis Vega that inspired DJ Fisherman to want to follow suit and produce good house music just like them.

He then learned the art of deejaying in 2002 and immediately started playing around taverns and talent shows in his township, but it wasn’t enough for an ambitious musical genuis. He then taught himself beat-making on FROOTY LOOPS software and it didn’t take him long to produce his first bedroom studio song.

He took time to perfect his beat making skills on Fruity Loops and eventually solely produced his first dance track called “Mhlabe” in 2005 and sampled local dj’s for free and in return the song earned him respect and popularity in and around Durban as it ruled dance floor and played on everything that had speakers the (KwaZulu-Natal) province.

As a good result he received a call from the duo Durban’s Finest (DJ Tira and Sox) in 2006, the two super mega dj’s were running the South African dance seen to date when they heard DJ FISHERMAN’s underground track called “Mhlabe” and were keen on meeting and working with the young talent on their upcoming project.

Being under DJ Tira’s wing instantly opened doors for him as he got a chance to produce a track called (House Animation) which was released internationally by Franck Roger at Real Tone Records.

The same album featured well respected South African producers, namely Black Coffee and DJ Cleo, the track was also released locally on DJ Cndo’s Finest Lady of House Volume 1 in 2007.

DJ FISHERMAN finally got the ball rolling with Durban’s Finest in 2007 when he produced the smash hit “Uyoysholo Wena” featuring Big NUZ marking his arrival in the mainstream. DJ FISHERMAN produced four tracks in total on Durban’s Finest classic “Uyoy’ Sholo Wena” album.

In 2009 he worked with South Africa’s number one boy band, Big NUZ on their second studio album titled “Undisputed” where he produced ‘Umlilo” a single that escalated Big Nuz newer heights helping the group sell it’s first multi-platunum album winning each and every award the group was nominated for notably the SAMA 16 (Song Of The Year Award)

The producer/engineer released his long awaited album titled The Fishtank Volume 1 featuring night club dance floor hits, like “Afro Spirits”, “Amerido Remix” and “Happy Song” other tracks on the album include ‘The Urban Zulu” by BLACK COFFEE, “Owethu Wena” by Big Nuz featuring Professor and it “Feels like” by Dj Tira and Joocy. DJ FISHERMAN joggles production and deejaying making his mark as a DJ at various locations in South Africa and has been rocking places like Swaziland, Namibia and Botswana. DJ Fisherman has certainly made his mark in South African music industry having worked with the legendary Nana Coyote and Bucie Nqwilisa of “Turn me on” fame and “Superman” hits to deliver a soulful opening to the album.

Where there is a DJ Tira & Big Nuz collabo there bound to be a hit, listen to “Happy Song” and you will affirm that Afrotainment is not about to stop delivering hits to South African masses and the world at large should an opportunity arise.

It’s 2014 and FISHERMAN has been hard at work in the studio taking no days off to bring us his 3rd self-explanatory album titled “Evolution”, offering the summer banger single “CALL OUT” with Naak Musiq, featuring Danger, Dj Tira, Dreamteam & DJ SK which has been being overwhelmingly received on dance floor across the nation.
