iFani says he grew up listening to Tupac, Wu-tang Clan, Notorius B.I.G – “There was nothing special or different. We liked it because it was new to us. The cursing and the rawness of it all was new. There were kids rapping around my hood. I would try to rap too but there was nothing extraordinary about me. I was just like anybody else. When I got into university is where I started rapping more. There was radio and there were battles and even then I wasn’t in the top five. People thought I was ordinary. I would even get the usual “you are wack” or “you are weak.” But however I continued doing it. It was just something to do. I then went back to the Eastern Cape and started rapping with another guy. We did some recording and playing around but that didn’t go far. After that I went to Cape Town to go do some more music. My girlfriend at the time was against the idea of me trying to push a career in music but ending up a struggling artist so she posted my music online and I ended up getting jobs”
