Nicholas Tennant
Nicholas Tennant has a certificate in Financial Planning – Milpark
Nicholas Tennant has a unique perspective on solving problems, creatively, within the bounds of the law and ultimately having the members / clients best interests at heart.
He overcame a drug addiction, travelled the world and Africa specifically.
Nicholas Tennant challenges the convention of his colleagues’ thought processes and encourages their personal growth, inspiring them to look at changing the world and making a positive impact in their sphere of influence.
Having placed business in all 54 African Countries, around Asia (China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Cambodia. (No other, if any, employee benefits consultant can boast having done work in 60 odd different countries). That reach of influence alone should be awarded.
He has worked with companies like, G4S, Halliburton, Tullow Oil, ENI, Spotify (SA, Kenya and Nigeria), Puma, Trafigura, WVI, the Bill and Malinda Gates Foundation (currently Kenya, Nigeria Senegal and others), MSC, SCS Global (Ivory Coast), NewPark resources (Congo Brazzaville) and many others.
Both of Nicholas’s parents have worked in Financial Services their entire lives. Growing up in this environment, Nick spent all of his formative years informally learning from his father about the industry.
This came to the fore in 2012 where he took on a Pan-African client on the employee benefits side for Tennant Life Benefits. By 2014 he had secured a number of clients and became a regional expert within the group risk space having, by June 2014, successfully placed Risk and Retirement business in all 54 African states.
While in Vietnam, he was also involved in three M&A projects, one being a healthcare app in Vietnam that provided assisted virtual healthcare.
Moving back to South Africa in 2021 Jan, rejoining the family business and taking over the international department he immediately got involved in securing a number of contracts across the African region. Inspiring colleagues and consistently challenging them to think big, different with an emphasis on solutions that are in the best interests of the members.
Additionally he is working on a product for all actors and others in the Media fraternity to enjoy access to a group fund and employee benefits. The challenge was creating an employee / employer relationship in an industry that is predominantly contract based. He achieved this through using an employer on record (EOR) and a patented method of handling the employment contracts, smoothing income over a 12 month process and using other innovative methods to prove concepts and test it in a sample grouping.
In every or at least in most interactions his view is to help those around him in making their lives better (through their own work) – his belief is that this promotes self improvement and does not build reliance.
Within the office, the challenge constantly is doing more for clients than they expected, living the company’s mantra of taking care of tomorrow or today.
