Shaheeda Mia
Shaheeda Mia has several years of experience in the financial services industry and possesses an extensive understanding of how the industry fits together.
Shaheeda started her career with EY in Cape Town and New York City, with audit clients in the retail, energy and the financial services sectors. She then moved to Sanlam Limited, where she held a number of roles which included a senior position in the Group’s Corporate Finance team working on strategic transactions and new business developments in South Africa, emerging and developed markets; and a stint as Manager in the Office of the Group CEO, where she worked alongside the Group CEO on a strategic, financial and operational level.
She was seconded from Sanlam to African Rainbow Capital (ARC), one of its business partners; as the COO where she helped develop the founding strategy, established initial operations and frameworks, and evaluated business opportunities. Whilst at Sanlam, Shaheeda also represented the Group in various capacities at the industry body, the Association of Savings & Investment South Africa (ASISA), assisting with policy formulation. She currently works as a consultant and is a visiting lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch Business School, where she lectures MBA classes.
Shaheeda is a CA(SA), and holds the following qualifications: Bachelor of Business Science with Honours in Finance and Accounting (First Class honours) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting; both from the University of Cape Town as well as a Master’s degree in Development Finance (cum laude) from the University of Stellenbosch.
