Ivan Pillay

Mr Ivan Pillay has been deputy commissioner at the South African Revenue Service (SARS) since May 2010, and is accountable for strategy, governance, planning and business enablement. He is a member of the SARS executive committee and is responsible for improving compliance through investigations and successful prosecution, assuring the security of SARS and the integrity of its personnel.

Mr Pillay is committed to contributing to the establishment of a capable state that responds efficiently and effectively to its citizens and residents. He participated in the Convention for a Democratic South Africa (Codesa) negotiation process to end apartheid and was a member of the interim administration which served as the Transitional Executive Council of the country prior to the 1994 elections.

Mr Pillay played a role in the amalgamation process of the civilian intelligence services and the formation of the National Intelligence Agency and the South African Security Services, where he served from 1995 to 1999 before moving to SARS.
