Abbas Mahmood

Abbas Mahmood has worked as a project manager for the Zanzibar Welfare Association since 2013. Prior to his current position, Abbas Mahmood started the “Wikipedia for Schools Project,” with the aim of providing Kenyan students and teachers with greater access to information on an offline platform. Abbas worked with stakeholders such as the Kenyan Ministry of Education, the Wikimedia Foundation, and Kenyan public primary schools. This project has now been replicated and implemented in several French-speaking African countries as well as India, Uganda & Tanzania. Abbas Mahmood is currently undertaking his research project for a Bachelor’s of Science in Applied Accounting. After completing the Washington Fellowship, Mr. Mahmood hopes to roll out the offline Wikipedia project across various African nations, thereby increasing Wikipedia access in Africa.
