Adibalakumo Kiakubu
Adibalakumo Kiakubu has over five years’ experience in career guidance and counselling and public service, including community research and cinematography as a tool for advocacy and inclusion. She worked with MIND (Media Information and Narrative Development), a Nigerian non-profit, to produce ‘Daughters of the Niger Delta’ an award-winning documentary which highlights the strength and resilience of three everyday heroines despite the human impact of corporate irresponsibility and gender injustice. Adibalakumo Kiakubu also worked with colleagues in MIND, to produce six short films used by NGOs across the Niger Delta to promote dialogue on gender and women empowerment. Currently, she works with the Planning, Research and Statistics Unit of the Federal Medical Center, Yenagoa where she serves as Secretary of the Editorial Board of the organization’s news bulletin. She also serves as career guidance counselor and mentor to teenage students in First Baptist Church, Yenagoa. She studied LLB Law at the University of Hertfordshire, United Kingdom and was called to the Nigerian bar in 2016. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, she hopes to expand on her passion of drawing attention to gender injustice and social exclusion, and mobilizing support to empower women and girls through community research and cinematography.
