Albertus Johannes Venter

Mr Albertus Venter was appointed to his current position in May 2007. He holds a BJuris degree and a LLB postgraduate degree from the University of the Free State, and is admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa. Prior to his appointment, Mr Venter served as chief operating officer and senior executive manager in the Department of the Premier: Free State Provincial Government.

His public service career includes serving as head of the State law advisers between 2000 and 2001, and as secretary for the Secretariat for Safety and Security in the Free State Provincial Government from 1996 to 2000. Mr Venter practised as an attorney with EG Cooper and Sons in Bloemfontein for 11 years, and served as a public prosecutor at the Department of Justice in Bloemfontein from 1978 to 1985.

He has also served as a member and convener of the Free State change management team and represented the province in the National Change Management Team of the South African Police Service after the 1994 Elections.
