Alex Kagwe Waithaka

Alex Kagwe Waithaka is the Founder Trustee of the Open Institute, based in Kenya. As an Open Government and Open Data enthusiast, Al was the Co-Chairman of the Kenya Open Data Task Force and has been closely involved in Open Government activities in various countries in Africa and elsewhere. Alex Kagwe Waithaka has a keen interest in working with African governments to build connections with African citizens by opening up public information and being responsive to citizen views and needs. A self-confessed serial entrepreneur, Al has formed and grown successful businesses and currently is the founder and Group CEO of the Goode Group that is a marketing and communications agency that is dedicated to serve African social organisations. Al Kags was one of 100 Fellows competitively selected to participate in an 8-week internship in the United States following the Mandela Washington Fellowship academic institute. He interned at OpentheGovernment.org in August-September 2014.
