Alfred (Alf) James Wills

Alfred (Alf) James Wills served as Deputy Director-General of Environmental Advisory Services. He has post-graduate qualifications in Cell Biology, environmental sciences and ecology, and many years’ experience in applied nature conservation research, protected area management and nature conservation development programmes.

Alfred (Alf) James Wills spent two years leading the post-apartheid transformation and restructuring of environmental and conservation functions of provincial government in North West province, and five years as head of department for the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Environment in North West. He was the lead negotiator for South Africa at the World Summit on Sustainable Development and in multi-lateral environmental, sustainable development, international environmental governance and climate change agreements since 2002. Mr Wills also served as South Africa’s chief negotiator for climate change at the seventeenth Conference of the Parties (COP 17) climate change conference in 2012.
