Trained by the legendary Max Collie – and having set broken attendance records in theatres across South Africa, he fondly remembers – at the tender age of 20 – stepping for the first time onto the stage at the Bloemfontein Civic Theatre to thunderous applause. Those six performances were followed by another four, when the theatre was again filled to capacity – and the rest, as they say – is history.
