Arno Barnard
Head of Sustainability Andrada Mining
Arno Barnard is a mining executive who has benefitted from over 10 years’ experience across Africa, in both junior and senior, gold, tin and copper mining companies, including Endeavour Mining, consulting for Randgold Resources ,Impala Terminals (Trafigura) and Metorex Mining. He has experience in departments covering the full mining value chain from operations management to compliance, and is currently Head of Sustainability at Andrada Mining (previously named Afritin Mining), managing the ESG, HSE, HR and IT departments.
Within this role he has solidified company safety culture with the highest industry standards of processes and procedures and has focussed on driving local talent development and creating a positive work environment for all employees.
In addition, he has successfully embedded ESG as a core element within the company’s operating model, rolling out the company’s first sustainability report, building the mine’s closure plan following extensive mine stakeholder engagement and defining a 5-year strategy supported by climate risk assessment,biodiversity strategy and a water stewardship programme.
Arno is currently working on a research thesis on integrated mine closure at the University of Witwatersrand.
