Arrey George Lyonga

Arrey George Lyonga

Arrey George Lyonga is a 35-year-old Cameroon with eight years of experience working directly with local communities on the conservation of natural resources, especially wildlife. As the assistant conservator of the Bakossi National Park, he leads anti-poaching campaigns and organizes sensitization meetings with local communities, as well as carrying out planned and impromptu controls to assess their level of participation. Currently, Arrey is involved in reorganizing locals to become partners in conservation in what has been called the Village Forest Management committee. He is also the co-founder of World Information System on the Environment (WISE), a common-initiative group that focuses on the sensitization of the general public on the protection and better management of the environment especially natural resources. Upon his return from the Mandela Washington Fellowship he hopes to have acquired better leadership skills and will spend more time as a volunteer.
