Audrey Chimwanda
Audrey Chimwanda is an anchor on South Africa’s private news station Africa News Network 7 (ANN7) where she presents the programme Africa Tonight. A Zimbabwean journalist based in South Africa.
Audrey attended Regina Mundi Secondary School before she transferred to Chaplin High School for her A-Levels. Chimwanda enrolled at Women’s University in Africa where she studied for a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems degree. She did her internship at the Public Information Department of the Women’s University in Africa.
Chimwanda was studying Bsc in Information Systems when she was told about a presenter audition at ZTV for a show called Youth.Com. Chimwanda was reluctant to audition as she considered herself shy. There were a lot of hopefuls. She made it to the finals and was eventually chosen out of everyone. Chimwanda then went on to present Hospitality Zimbabwe in 2006, the Harare Agricultural Show for two consecutive years from 2010 before joining ZiFM Stereo as a news presenter.
After Chimwanda moved to South Africa she applied for a call centre job at Multichoice South Africa. Multichoice responded to her application in a couple of days for an interview. Chimwanda went there prepared for interview but it never happened. When she walked into the boardroom, the marketing manager informed her that after going through her Curriculum Vitae (CV), he realised her skills were better suited for a new news channel that was looking to hire news producers. He asked for her permission to forward her CV to ANN7 human resources. Despite being pessimistic, Chimwanda gave him the go ahead but still begged for the call centre job because she believed she stood no chance at ANN7. A couple of days later, the ANN7 news editor called her for an interview where she got the job. She started as a news producer for almost a year before she became a news anchor after requesting to be put in front of the camera rather than to work behind the scenes.
