BERNIE KRONE
Bernie was born in Halstead, England and moved to South Africa when he was 8 years old. He grew up in the southern suburbs of Johannesburg and matriculated from St Martins School in Rosettenville. He obtained a BSc in Civil Engineering from Wits in 1976. He is a fellow of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering, received the Jerry Jennings award for Geotechnical Engineering in 1991 and the Geotechnical Gold Medal Award in 2007. He has extensive knowledge of geotechnical processes and techniques particularly in the jacking of large structures, pipejacking, lateral support, ground anchors, piling and grouting
He has worked for the Esor Group since 1981 and has been CEO since listing in 2006 until 31st August 2014 when he retired and stepped down as CEO. On 1st September 2014 he took up the position of non-executive Chairman of the board of Esor Limited. He is married to Martie (nee Smuts), has 6 children and 5 grandchildren. He is a keen canoeist and cyclist having completed 17 Dusi Marathons and 22 Argus Cycle Tours. He has also run 2 Comrades Marathons. He is a proud Mason and a member of the Rand Club.
