Cassel Charlie Mathale
Mr Mathale was appointed Deputy Minister of Small Business Development on 27 February 2018. Mr Mathale holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Sciences from the University of the Western Cape (WCU). He matriculated at Phangasasa High School.
Mr Mathale was a member of the Branch Executive Committee of Azanian Student Organisation (AZASO) in Tivumbeni College of Education from 1984 to 1986; President of Muhlava Youth Congress from 1985 to 1987; a member of Regional Executive Committee of the United Democratic Front (UDF) in the Northern Transvaal from 1986 to 1990; a Secretary-General of the Northern Transvaal Youth Congress from 1986 to 1990 and a member of the Tzaneen Education Crisis Committee from 1989 to 1990.
He also served as a President of South African Youth Congress (SAYCO) in the Northern Transvaal in 1990; member of the Interim Leadership Core of the ANC in the Northern Transvaal in 1990; a member of the ANC Regional Executive Committee in the Northern Transvaal Region from 1990 to 1991; a member of the Peter Nchabeleng Command Unit, Northern Transvaal Machinery in 1990 and a member of the Branch Executive Committee of South African Students’ Congress from 1991 to 1993.
Between 1993 and 1996 Mr Mathale served as a member of the ANC Regional Executive Committee in the Northern Transvaal; a member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature from 1994 to 1996; a Commissioner for Youth Affairs in the Northern Transvaal Provincial Government from 1994 to 1996; and as a member of the ANC Youth League National Executive Committee from 1996 to 1998.
Mr Mathale was Secretary of the North East Region of ANC in Limpopo from 1998 to 2000; a member of the ANC Branch Executive Committee at Wilson Tibane branch in Nkowankowa from 2001 to 2002; a member of the ANC Regional Executive Committee in Mopani Region in 2000; a Provincial Secretary of the ANC in Limpopo from 2002 to 2008; a member of Executive Council (MEC) for Roads and Transport in the Limpopo Provincial Government between 2008 -and 2009; Acting Premier of Limpopo from 3 to 23 March 2009 and an Interim Premier of Limpopo from 24 March to 5 May 2009.
Mr Cassel Charlie Mathale served as the Premier of Limpopo from 6 May 2009 until 15 July 2013. He also served as a Chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo since 17 July 2008 and Ex-fficio member of the ANC National Executive Committee since 2002.
