Clare Kanja
Clare Kanja is a MasterCard Foundation Scholar at the African Leadership University, pursuing a BSc. in Computer Science. She is passionate about Technology, particularly the field of Data Science and aims to be a thought-leader in the same and community development. She strives to find an intersection between the two through her career and passion projects.
She co-founded Jalia Club, which stems from the Swahili word Jali, which means ‘to care’ or ‘to empower’. The club aims at bridging the gap between girls in underprivileged high schools and those from top tier schools by providing a platform for young people to share their stories in order for them to learn about and from each other. They do this by creating spaces where the girls acquire technical skills such as Design Thinking as well as having open sessions where they discuss day-to-day issues that they face and possible solutions to them.
Additionally, Clare’s entrepreneurial mindset has led to her selection as one of the Ms Geek Africa 2020 finalists and winner of the ALU Innovate 2021 competition. She values mentorship as she believes that it is a means through which one can reach their maximum potential.
In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities, cycling in particular.
