Cobus van den Berg

After finishing his BSc degree at UFS, South Africa Cobus van den Berg started his career at small consulting firms, producing technology architectures, process models, process optimisation and development for the Department of Defence and Grintek (Saab).

He then moved to Business Connexion, where he decided to specialise in enterprise architecture. Using TOGAF and Zachman Frameworks, he established enterprise architectures for clients across multiple industry segments over a six-year period. He was always under the impression that companies didn’t capture their information architectures correctly, and that their understanding of the field was limited.

Seeking change and a new challenge, Cobus van den Berg decided to join Accenture’s technology consulting department as an enterprise architect, where he identified a gap existed for data management (including architecture) and the impact it had on clients. He started to specialise in the field and soon became the information and data management strategy lead for technology consulting. During this period, he defined multiple data management, business intelligence, analytics and big data strategies for clients across all industry segments. His unique perspective on prioritising initiatives allowed him to become recognised as a subject matter expert in the field.

When PwC asked him to join the company and help grow its data management capability, it was the logical next step. His current role is the information and data management lead and he is responsible for helping clients realise value through enterprise information management initiatives, including data management, business intelligence, analytics and big data.
