Daphne Motsepe

Daphne Motsepe is an experienced banking executive and company director. She was formerly chief executive of Absa card and unsecured lending at Absa Bank and also served as managing director of Postbank. She also serves as a trustee of Alexander Forbes Community Trust, SaveAct and CGAP. Ms Motsepe has previously served on the boards of Investec Bank, Thebe Investment Corporation and Woolworths Financial Services.

She served as Deputy Managing Director and Business Loans Manager at Get Ahead Foundation, Regional Finance Executive at National Sorghum Breweries, General Manager of Emalahleni, National Sorghum Breweries, Group Compensation Benefits Manager of Engen and Executive Director of Womens Development Banking. She returned to South Africa from an assignment to Barclays in the United Kingdom, where she worked in the commercial and retail banking sectors. Prior to her UK assignment, she held senior positions in the Retail Bank, including Head of Small Business, which contributes substantially to the bottom-line.

Daphne Motsepe served as the Head of Unsecured Lending at Barclays Africa Group Limited since April 1, 2010 and also served as its Chief Executive of Unsecured Lending since January 22, 2010. Ms. Motsepe has been an Independent Non-Executive Director of Mercantile Bank Limited and Mercantile Bank Holdings Ltd. since October 01, 2014. Ms. Motsepe serves as a Non-Executive Director on the boards of Rand Mutual Assurance Limited, Kapela Investment Holdings Limited and its investee companies XON Holdings (Pty) Ltd, SPX Flow Technology South Africa and Stonehenge.

Daphne Motsepe serves as a Non-Executive Director of Edcon. She has been an Independent Non-Executive Director at Lewis Group Limited since June 1, 2017. She served as an Independent Director at Evraz Highveld Steel & Vanadium Ltd. until May 9, 2007. She served as a Non Executive Director at Ubank Ltd. She served as a Non Executive Director of Investec plc of Investec Bank plc until June 26, 2002. She served as a Non-Executive Director of Investec Bank Limited, a subsidiary of Investec Ltd. until September 30, 2005.

Daphne Motsepe served as an Independent Director of Highveld Steel and Vanadium Corp. Ltd. until May 9, 2007. She is a Member of the executive committee of the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP), an international organisation headquartered in Washington DC, which promotes responsible and inclusive financial markets. She is also a Trustee on the Alexander Forbes Community Trust. Ms. Motsepe holds a Baccalaureus Rationis degree (upgraded to a BCompt degree) as well as an MBA from De Montfort University in the United Kingdom.
