David Mamphitha (Dr.)

CEO Mine, Health & Safety Council DMRE

David ‘Dave’ Mamphitha joined the Mine Health and Safety Council as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in April 2022. He holds qualifications in Metallurgy, Mining and Commerce, as well as an MBA from GIBS (UP). He is a member of The Institute of Directors South Africa (IoDSA) and SAIMM

Dave is a well-rounded executive with exposure and experience in research, technical, general management, MA&D, project management, planning, stakeholder relations and strategy development and implementation gathered throughout a 20-year illustrious career. He has worked for large mining companies such as BHPBilliton and De Beers at various levels, and a part of value adding roles (Supervisor, Engineer, Business Development Manager, Project Manager, General Manager, Head of Strategy and Business Planning, and CEO).

Dave has significant experience in running medium-sized mining companies, and has also led a government mining entity ‘under his belt’. He has working knowledge of various commodities such as Chrome, Manganese, Iron Ore, PGMs, Aluminium, and Diamonds.

Some of his many professional strengths lie in managing strategic partnerships with key stakeholders in government (local, provincial and national) as well as the private sector. He is a result- driven professional with good communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of the organisation. He is fluent in a number of South African official languages inclusive of; English, Afrikaans, Zulu, Tshivenda and Setswana.
