DJ Shony
Shony was born in Soweto, Johannesburg, and then grew up in Alexandra Township. His real name is Isaac Shony Raselabe. He is a house music DJ specializing in soulful and commercial house and an occasional producer of deep house music. Today he is playing in and outside Johannesburg and other parts of the country where his name continues to grow as a brand.
After seven years of playing professionally as a Dj, he has been spinning the decks, and producing music for three years now. Shony has been featured in numerous reputable venues in Johannesburg which includes: the likes of Taboo Nightclub, Kong, The Sands, Elevate Venue, News Café, Capellos, Disoufeng Pub, Chaf Pozi, Stoep 15 and The Dip Car Wash where he keeps the crowd on their feet. Having to play alongside likes of Black Coffee, Vinny Da Vinci, Dj Fresh, Oskido, Ralf Gum, Shimza, Christos, Heavy K, Sol Pheduka, Lulo Café, Mo Flava, Major League Djz, Dj Sbu, and Black Motion list is endless.
Shony has played alongside the most recognizable names in the industry and International acts. He was featured in Vinny Da Vinci’s exclusive annual birthday party, Soul Candi Selektor Series Jozi Edition, and Soccer Legends tribute powered by Three Ships Whiskey. Other notable events he has participated in include: Nick Holder’s international tour in 2013. And was selected as one of the performing dj at the Soul Candi Pioneers of House album launch by UPZ Avi Elman a world renowned dj.
He is the official resident Dj on the brand new local dance entertainment show on ETV, Turn Up and Dance that sees him work with Thulisile Madihlaba AKA Chomee and Dr Malinga of Via Orlando. This dance competition will see him perform live for the duration of season while contestants battle it out on the dance floor. Turn Up and Dance is a Launchpad for Shony’s blossoming Dj career and will make him a household name in the music industry and to South African dance and music lovers.
He is constantly breaking new musical grounds and educates his crowd about the house music genre. Shony’s talent has been recognized by household names in the music industry such as Vinny Da Vinci, and he has worked with the likes of Monocles, Mocchachino Ochi, Velvet Suite Lounge, Garth Brown, Gino Brown, Gash and Addicted Souls in the music industry just to name a few.
The man behind a house music movement which was established early in 2013 named Elements of House. The movement is hosted every first Saturday of every month at a beautiful musical venue, in which featured djs/producers/bands compile the latest stunning house materials and also get an opportunity to show case their skills in house music scene, inspired by a podcast called the Deeper Shade of House hosted by an international dj/producer Lars Behrenroth and by a radio show named The Urban Beat which is a dance show on Metro FM hosted by DJs at work.
He is Co-organizer of the huge annual events titled, Alexandra Dj Experience known as #ADJE and “In-Yard X-mas Experience” that marks the calendar in Alexandra’s history as the biggest social event around Christmas Time. The event is a pure Christmas celebration party event that embraces and cheers the promotion on brands that are on the mark in the entertainment industry and raises funds for organizations that are in need. The magnitude of this event is big and it has happened for the past 7 years.
Shony’s background and love for music has helped him to become what he is today. His parents are collectors of old time music records and his brother owns a record label named Open House Records based in Johannesburg, under which he is signed under. His love for music has helped him to be raising talent in the house music scene.
