Dr. Aishatu Abdullateef Abubakar

Dr. Aishatu Abdullateef Abubakar has over seven years of experience in the field of psychiatry and has recently been focusing on child and adolescent mental Health. Currently, she is a Senior Registrar in the Department of Psychiatry at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, where she is involved in the provision of clinical services, research, teaching medical students, and mentoring younger colleagues. Dr. Aishatu Abdullateef Abubakar holds a medical degree and an M.Sc. in Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMH) from the MacArthur Foundation Funded Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health, University of Ibadan. While Aishatu has done some work on school-based mental health in Northern Nigeria, her research focus is on street children in the region. She driven by her desire that every child in Northern Nigeria be able to achieve his or her optimum potential. On return to Nigeria after the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Aishatu plans to continue her work with schools, educating them on promotion of child mental health, and with street children, advocating for their rights and providing them with better opportunities.
