Dr Monde Mayekiso

Dr Monde Mayekiso

Dr Monde Mayekiso was appointed to his current position in May 2005. He holds a BSc (Hons) from the University of Fort Hare, a MSc degree from Rhodes University, and a PhD from College Park, University of Maryland.

Prior to being appointed Deputy Director-General he served as programme manager: Coast at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research and as chief director: Research, Marine and Coastal Management at the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism. As an academic, Dr Monde Mayekiso served as special assistant to the vice-chancellor at the University of Fort Hare from 1995 to 1996, and as senior lecturer and lecturer in the Department of Zoology at the University for more than 12 years. His leadership roles include serving on the advisory panel of the National Research Foundation Institutional Research Development Programme at the University of Kwazulu-Natal in 2004 and as a board member of the South African National Biodiversity Institute in the same year.
