Emmanuel Chibikonye Agunze
Emmanuel Chibikonye Agunze has over six years of experience in the not-for-profit sector and over three years’ experience in the community development sector, specifically focusing on slum-reorganization and education for children living in slums. Emmanuel Chibikonye Agunze is the founder of The Makoko Dream where he has successfully advocated for the placement of more than 100 Makoko slum children in schools since 2016, thereby reducing the illiteracy of children living in slums. Emmanuel has volunteered for the Eagles HOPE Foundation, the NGO arm of Covenant University Alumni, serving as the regional human resource manager, and the GleeHd Foundation as the database manager. He is driven by his passion to see quality education accessible to all children regardless of their parent’s economic status or background. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, he hopes to employ his architectural skills, gained at Covenant University, to build the first eco-friendly school structure on the water in Makoko (Yaba Region, Lagos State, Nigeria). He envisions that more than a 1,000 children will be educated at the school focused on innovation, skill acquisition, leadership and mentoring.
