Eskedar Awgichew Ergete
Eskedar Awgichew Ergete has over four years of experience in environmental law. Currently, Eskedar is the director of the Environment and Natural Resources Law Center at Mekelle University, where he works on research-based environmental advocacy and lobbying, in addition to teaching. He has a master’s degree (LLM) in Environment and Natural Resources Law. Eskedar Awgichew Ergete educates the public on environmental rights and responsibilities and works with government agencies in the environmental sector to better implement existing environmental laws. He also lobbies for necessary amendments to existing laws, guaranteeing sustainable development in his country. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Eskedar wants to continue his environmental advocacy work in Ethiopia with increased dynamism. He is determined to play an important leadership role in Ethiopia’s Ministry of Environment within the next five years, after which he has a five-year plan to expand his work globally through assuming regional leadership at the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) or a similar institution with international influence.
