Fatouma Youssouf Elmi
Fatouma Youssouf Elmi has over six years’ experience working with vulnerable women and the issue of gender-based violence. Currently, Fatouma Youssouf Elmi works as a counselor and coordinator assistant in the Center d’Ecoute for victims of violence at the National Union of Djibouti Women, fighting for human rights in general and women in particular. Fatouma is a founder and president of Djibouti Association of Dyslexia, which is for children who have difficulties in reading and writing. Fatouma also volunteers in her local community, promotes national and local ownership, leadership and capacity development, awareness events for community mobilization and social change trough community activities. Fatouma is an alumnus of YALI’s regional leadership center, East Africa Cohort 1. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Fatouma will continue to strategically develop her work to raise women’s voices and support a better education system for children.
