Fatoumatta L. Kassama
Fatoumatta L. Kassama has six years’ experience in nursing, specifically focusing in ophthalmology. Currently, Fatoumatta is an Ophthalmic Medical Assistant at Sheikh Zayed Regional Eye Care Center. Her duties include treating people with eye problems, performing surgeries, counseling patients, giving health education, supervising junior staff, and teaching student nurses and interns. Fatoumatta is the founder of Eye Care for All, a support group that provides free individualized home-based care and community screenings. Fatoumatta L. Kassama also provides medication and reduced surgery fees for the less privileged living with Glaucoma in her community. Fatoumatta volunteers with the Aging with a Smile Initiative and Africa Muslim Agency in collaboration with Al Basar International to provide free health care services and cataract surgeries. Fatoumatta is committed to her work and she hopes to see the provision of quality health care services for everyone in her country. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Fatoumatta plans to continue her work with a focus on providing free individualized home-based care for the less privileged living with Glaucoma in her community.
