Fletcher Mushimbwa

National Coordinator/Public Relations Mineworkers Union of Zambia (MUZ), an affiliate of IndustriALL Global Union

Fletcher Mushimbwa is one of the young Zambian unionists and media personnel that aims at  becoming one of the greatest unionists in Africa. He was born in 1986 in a city called Solwezi one of the mining towns of North western Province-Zambia.

He works as National Coordinator of a labour movement called the Mineworkers’ Union of Zambia (MUZ), a union that represents workers in the mining and energy sectors.

With his dedication and good attitude towards work, Fletcher has been given additional roles of a Public Relations officer, Coordinator of MUZ-IndusriALL Projects and MUZ-Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES).

After completing his Secondary education, he joined one of the Zambia’s Catholic owned media institutions called Radio Icengelo on part-time basis before studying journalism  at Pan African Center for Study, Reflection and Worship in Zambia.

His roles in the union, have been Organizing workers in the mining,  energy, the Artisanal and Small Scale mines (ASM) and educating workers on Zambian labour laws and ILO Conventions.

Fletcher also represents his union on a number of fora such as Consortium of Civil Society of Organizations, like Publish What You Pay Zambia and the Extractive Transparency Initiative (EITI) -Zambia among others.

With his Public Relations skills, Fletcher has managed to convince a number of mining companies in Zambia to have their employees belong to the union for a collective voice on many issues and concerns that affect them.

He draws is his inspiration from some of the greatest Zambian unionists such as  former President of the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) Leonard Hikaumba and the current President of MUZ Joseph Chewe who have always dedicated their lives to fighting for the workers’ rights and promoting decent work
