Gwiba Nkonki grew up in the dusty streets of Mthatha in South Africa, raised by his single (late) mother in a small one room which was also a tavern and a spaza shop. As a true Gemini, he’s a people’s person, whose core attributes include communicating and interacting with diverse groups of people. He’s a simple, original guy who is passionate about music, broadcasting and sports.

Shows that he hosts?

He’s on air Saturdays from 1 – 3 pm, firstly, hosting a heart-warming and memory evoking show called ‘Siyabakhumbula’. Where he tracks down the legends in the music industry who are no longer releasing music and are inactive. They celebrate their achievements, their lives through beautiful music and good conversations.

From 2 pm, Gwiba Nkonki then host a fast paced music reggae show called ‘Umyezo We Reggae’, focusing on all things – Reggae.

It all started in 1997 at UCR – FM when he was a student at Unitra (WSU), when the station had just started broadcasting. He presented a lifestyle weekend show on Friday & Saturday; he then later did the afternoon drive. He also had a short stint with Alfred Nzo Community Radio, which is where he was recruited by UWFM to do a lifestyle/entertainment show (Friday/Saturday evenings) and an Afro Jazz show called ‘African Beat’ on Sundays from 9 – 11 am.

Before joining UWFM, he have also worked for 2 FMCG companies occupying many positions, from a Multi Brand Ambassador, an Events Coordinator, to a Market Development Officer and a Sales Rep.
