Hlobsile Sikhosana Shongwe
Hlobsile Sikhosana-Shongwe has over six years’ experience in the environment sector specifically focusing on climate change. Currently, Hlobsile is the Chief Environmental Coordinator in the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs where she facilitates the development, implementation, and monitoring of environmental policies as well as coordinating multilateral environmental agreements. Hlobsile has previously worked for the Department of Meteorology as a Climatologist responsible for coordinating national climate change activities. She has also worked for South South North as a Technical Advisor to the chair of the Africa Group of Negotiators on climate change. Hlobsile holds a Master’s degree in Applied Meteorology. She is driven by her desire for cultivating an environmentally sound culture and hopes to witness the world where nature and people live in harmony. Upon returning from the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Hlobsile plans to continue her work in public environmental policy and focus on enhancing the government’s social responsibility while enhancing community initiatives aimed at preserving the environment for present and future generations.
