Hon. Ryuji Satomi

Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Japan

Mr. Satomi Ryuji was named Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry in August 2022. He joins the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) from Japan’s House of Councillors where he is a member representing Aichi Prefecture in Japan’s Kansai region.

Mr. Satomi is currently serving his second term at the House of Councillors. During this time, he has served as Director of several key policy committees including the Research Committee on National Life and Economy and the Special Committee on Official Development Assistance. As a member of Japan’s House of Councillors, Mr. Satomi has also served in several key roles within the Komeito Party.

Prior to winning election to public office, Mr. Satomi served as a civil servant. He joined the Ministry of Labour (now part of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare) directly after graduating from university. During his career at the Ministry, he served in several senior roles including First Secretary at the Embassy of Japan in the United Kingdom, Counsellor, Regional Revitalization Bureau, Cabinet Secretariat and Counsellor, Minister’s Secretariat.

Mr. Satomi is a graduate of the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Economics. He was born on October 17, 1967, in Kyoto Prefecture.
