Jabu Mabuza

Jabu Mabuza is a successful South African entreprenuer who is also chairman of the Eskom board. He won Business Leader of the Year Award.

Jabu Mabuza was appointed to the board in November 2012. He is widely recognised as a successful entrepreneur. He is president of Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), chairman of the Casino Association of South Africa, co-convener of the CEO Initiative, chairman of the Africa portion of the merged Anheuser-Busch InBev and SABMiller, and chairman of Business Leadership South Africa in 2016. He was recently appointed as chairman of ESKOM He has received several awards, which include the Lifetime Achiever Award presented by the South African Minister of Tourism and the Business Leader of the Year award received at the South African of the Year awards.He serves on the boards of Eglin Investments no. 44 (Pty) Limited, Kuncedzana Investment Holdings, Lexshell 627 Investments (Pty) Limited, Motema Investments, OTEO Investments Holdings, among others. Prior to this, he was Deputy Chairman of Tsogo Sun Holding, Managing Director of Southern Sun Gaming, Group Chief Executive officer of Tsogo Sun and Chairman of the Board of South African Tourism.

He also served on the board of University of South Africa School of Business Leadership (SBL) and was the country advisor to the Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS). He has been recently appointed member and patron of the South Africa Day initiative (Citizens in Partnership withGovernment “CPG”).

Jabu Mabuza has presented several papers in Southern Africa, the United Kingdom, United States of America and Europe on black economic empowerment investment in South Africa, small and medium enterprise development and the role of business in transition.

Jabu Mabuza expertise landed him international recognition to serve on the boards of Tanzania Breweries Ltd (TBL), and Castle Brewing Company in Kenya. He recently retired as a board member from the Corporate Council of Africa (CCA) in Washington DC, and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) in England as an executive committee member. He was also appointed to the Concordia Leadership Council in USA and as Chairman of the Regional Business Council for World Economic Forum (WEF).

Some of the accolades he received include:

  •   The Lifetime Achiever Award (Lilizela Tourism Award) presented by the South African Minister of Tourism for his exceptional contribution to the tourism sector on 12 September 2013.

  •   On 17 October 2015 he received the Business Leader of the Year Award at the South African of the Year Awards (SATY Awards).

 Recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award – Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Awards 2016 –Southern Africa on 29 November 2016.

EDUCATION

Doctor of Commerce Degree (Honoris Causa) (WITS), awarded to Mr Mabuza in recognition of his sterling work in his achievements in entrepreneurship and his contribution to the growth of the South African economy.

FAMILY LIFE

Married and blessed with two sons and a daughter.
