João Joaquim António Alfândega

João Joaquim António Alfândega has been teaching English at Metuchira Secondary School since 2010. While teaching, he conceptualized and initiated a project called English Club, which focuses on the teaching, learning, and practicing English, a language of global influence and a symbol of opportunities. The English Club also provides a space for debate on issues that affect the community of Nhamatanda and the country, such as gender equality; the importance of promoting girls’ education in schools; ending prejudice against and the trafficking of albinos; healthy habits and the fight against HIV/Aids, malaria and cholera; drug use amongst youths; and environmental stewardship. During these activities, João Joaquim António Alfândega has gathered strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, João plans to open a community resource center, where people across Nhamatanda, especially youths, will develop their computer skills and take English courses at various levels. Stayed in Africa.
