Joe de Beer
Mr Joe de Beer was appointed to his current position in 2011. He holds a BCom degree in Economics from the University of Pretoria and completed the African Leadership Programme of the University of the Witswatersrand Business School. His responsibilities at Statistics South Africa include industrial statistics, price statistics, enterprise labour statistics, national accounts and related satellite accounts as well as environmental economic accounts.Mr de Beer joined Stats SA in 1992 as a statistical advisor and has been with the organisation for 20 years. For Most of his career he worked as a national accountant before he started a new division focusing on economic analysis and research.
Mr de Beer has been part of many initiatives in the field of official statistics, including serving on the bureau of the United Nations Committee of Experts on environmental economic accounts, the World Bank’s national accounts expert group for the International Comparison Project, and chair of the African Group of National Accountants.
