Johanna Elizabeth McCourt

A former teacher, Johanna Elizabeth McCourt joined the public service in 1992 and was appointed chief operating officer in the Department of Environmental Affairs (South Africa) in January 2011. She has a BA (Hons) degree and a higher education diploma. Ms McCourt was a member of the Council of Geo Science Board, as well as of the task team of the Infrastructure and Economic Cluster of Cabinet.

Other leadership roles include task team convener for the Strategically Important Development and MINTECH Environment, chairperson of the working group on environmental impact management, and coordinator of the task team on integration of water and environment regulatory processes.

Johanna Elizabeth McCourt leads of the task team on inter-departmental cooperation on the environmental management of mining, is a leader of the environmental impact assessment system review process, as well as the convener of the task team on water and environment regulatory functions.
