Kenny Govender
A former Mathemat ics teacher, Mr Kenny Govender was appointed to his current position in January 2010. He holds Senior Primary and Higher Education diplomas from the Springfield College of Education, and a diploma in Education in Computers (cum laude) from the University of Johannesburg. He started his career as a teacher in KwaZulu-Natal, specialising in Mathematics. In 1996, he joined the National Department of Education as chief education specialist responsible for labour relations and conditions of service issues. The following year he was appointed to the position of director, representing the employer within the education sector in the Education Labour Relations Council.
Mr Govender joined the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) on promotion in 2000. In 2002 he was appointed by the Minister of Public Service and Administration as the State’s chief negotiator in the Public Service Coordinating Bargaining Council. During the period 2000 to 2006, he supported the activities of the DPSA in a number of chief directorates, including human resource development, negotiations and labour relations, and remuneration policy. Mr Govender has served on the boards of Sanitas Medical Benefit Scheme and the Government Employees Medical Scheme. Since 2006, he has served on the board of the Government Employees Pension Fund.
