Kwasi Oteng
KWASI OTENG (CAPT) joined Africa World Airlines during the Airlines start-up phase in 2011 as one of the first Management Staff of the Airline, being the Director of Flight Operations and Chief Pilot.
A graduate of Mfantsipim Secondary School and the University of London College, he obtained his commercial pilots license from Toronto Airways in Canada. He later joined Ghana Airways Ltd as a First Officer and progressed steadily to the rank of Captain and eventually Type Rating Instructor and Examiner (TRI/E). Aircraft types flown in Ghana Airways include Fokker 28 Douglas DC9 and DC10. He was part of the management team of the flight operations department as Fleet Captain DC9 and crew scheduling manager.
Following the closure of Ghana Airways he was employed at Saudi Arabian Airlines as Captain Embraer 170 and later upgraded to Airbus 320/1. He then left Saudia in 2012 in order to join the start-up team at AWA as Director of Flight Operations / Chief Pilot. He was most instrumental in setting up the Flight Operations Department and training all the Airlines Pilots.
Having served briefly as AWA’s Chief Operations Officer in 2014, he was later appointed Chief Safety Officer in 2016. He continues to train AWA Pilots as a GCAA designated Check Airman and (TRI/E) EMB145. His oversight as CSO covers Corporate Safety and Security and has successfully combined this role with regular flight duties
