Lorato Palesa Modongo

Lorato has over five years’ experience in voluntary work for issues on education, young women, leadership, and research on sexuality and gender-based violence. She serves in the UN Association of South Africa (Stellenbosch Chapter), is responsible for the coordination of a reading project that offers voluntary literacy classes on a weekly basis to primary and high school students in The Legacy Centre, Kayamandi Township, South Africa, and also serves on the executive committee of the Commonwealth Student Association as the Africa Representative. Lorato is currently reading for her Master’s degree in Research Psychology as a Mandela Rhodes Scholar at the University of Stellenbosch, where she is focusing on the construction of masculinities in the face of intimate femicide in Botswana. Upon completion of the Fellowship, plans to start an initiative offering volunteering opportunities to young people in Botswana and will continue with her work on education and gender.
